It has been brought to my attention recently that not everyone who chooses to exercise does so purely for pain, sweat and vanity.

Apparently there is this thing called enjoyment, which is so important to some that they will only exercise if they enjoy it- go figure!

Heck! Some folks even shun the gym culture for other activities, leaving personal trainers and gym bunnies standing by their triple cable crossovers wondering where everyone has disappeared off to…

For those of you who fall within this category of exercise heathens I have put together a list of alternative fitness forms. Those of you who had ‘getting fit’ at the top of their New Year’s resolution list but have yet to make it off the couch as all the options you can think of bore your socks off have no excuse now.

It’s as if I’m Goober’s Uncle Traveling Matt and you are my little Fraggles.

POLE DANCING

Apparently pole dancing makes exercise more sensual (pronounced sent-shoe-ale). Apparently these people haven’t seen me swing round on a pole!

It’s a pretty darn good upper body workout and a great excuse to don high shoes and a pair of shorty short
So even if you are not the gym bunny type then there are plenty of options.

Columnist tries popular class that separates the men from the women.

I am clinging as if clinging to life itself, muscles I didn’t know I owned now straining, parts of my body previously unfamiliar to me suddenly calling out, begging for a break.

Or a Valium. Or a Budweiser.

I am feeling many things at the moment, not one of which is sexy.

“One of the great things about this,” Collette Kakuk says, “is that it caters to you as a woman.”

This is when I realize I probably should point out to my instructor that I am not, in the most technical sense, female.

But there’s no time for that now because now I have to execute a spin, hooking one leg and twirling the other while lifting myself off the floor, all the while exploring my sensuality and expressing my flirtation nature. And trying to protect my groin.

You know, men really shouldn’t pole dance.

“We have noticed,” Kakuk says, “that it doesn’t look right.”

No, it doesn’t. Personally, I resemble a square-dancing primate, my moves not from The Great Gatsby but more from the Grape Ape.

Thankfully, this isn’t about being a good dancer or really about dancing at all. This is about toning muscles, burning fat and building serious self-confidence, even if it’s sometimes done while wearing FootUndeez, a product that bills itself as “underwear for your feet.”

This is OC Pole Fitness, a company started in Aliso Viejo 21/2 years ago by Kakuk, who recently opened a second location in Huntington Beach.

The program is geared toward women — they do offer couples classes designed to work core muscles — but is not a boot camp (or booty camp, if you prefer) for strippers.

Still, you’re free to take your best verbal shots at Kakuk and her instructors, who already have been called everything from exploiters to bad mothers to she-Satans.

Not long ago, one of Kakuk’s employees received an e-mail asking if these classes were intended to be practice for an orgy.

“If we came from the stripper world that would be different,” she says. “I guess there are some classes at other places where there’s more booty shaking going on. But we’re running a very mature program here.”

She is 40, the mother of two and University of Michigan educated. She served in the Army National Guard and worked as a business consultant and then as a vice president of a marketing firm.

Kakuk, a former college softball player, has worked out all her life and, until discovering pole fitness, found the conventional gym experience to be as mundane as most Monday mornings.

“I was working out just like men do,” she says. “It was the same environment, the same equipment. A big part was missing for me as a woman. I have a little ADD, I guess, too. I was bored.”

One day, she asked her friend Natalie Hamilton what she was doing to work out. Hamilton said she was driving to L.A. every week to take pole fitness classes.

Asked how she heard about the new fitness trend, Hamilton says, “One day I was watching Oprah …” and how many times has a woman opened a sentence with that phrase?

“The show was about stepping outside your box,” says Hamilton, now an OC Pole Fitness instructor. “This was as far out of my box as I could possibly get.”

A mother of three, Hamilton, 39, is a regular at PTA meetings and is as much a mom as Carol Brady ever was.

The clientele at OC Pole Fitness includes lawyers and doctors, Christians and Republicans. They have had girls as young as 15 and women as old as 74. The average age would fall somewhere in the mid-30s.

If these women are training strippers and polluting our society along the way, I’m in line to be the next Dalai Lama.

“We don’t take our clothes off,” Hamilton says. “In here, you’re not performing for anyone but yourself.”

The studio is dimly lit, featuring seven poles extending from the floor to the ceiling and plenty of mirrors in which to observe one’s sultriness. Unless you’re a sportswriter, in which case one can observe one’s monkey-ness.

The outfits generally are skimpy but that’s because skin sticks to the pole and clothing does not, an important consideration when attempting to hold yourself upside down using nothing but your will power and inner thighs.

These workouts are serious. So is the sound flesh makes when it scorches against a brass pole. Many of the women do work out in 6-inch heels, but that’s to promote posture, not themselves.

Executing moves with names like “Superwoman” and “Inverted Drama Queen” can alter lives, one muscle group at a time.

It’s about leverage and flexibility, and if you doubt that it’s demanding, try suspending yourself horizontally on a telephone pole for a minute or so.

“It’s a metamorphosis, a transformation,” Kakuk says. “The difference in confidence is amazing. Women walk out of here carrying themselves differently. They stand taller, are more sure of themselves. We’re changing bodies. Women are finding their six-packs here.”

And at least one man is in need of a six-pack here. This stuff isn’t a joke, even if me trying to do it is laughable.

Kakuk likes to call pole fitness “vertical ballet,” making me a vertical ballerina. I’ve been called worse, not sure I’ve ever looked worse, though.

I better stick with the more traditional workouts. I’m simply not man enough to keep up with these women.

VANCOUVER — After a one-year hiatus, the Virgin Festival returns to B.C. this month with a mixed line-up of talent including indie rock stars, hip hop icons and up-and-comers.

Oh, and lets not forget the pole dancing, fortune-telling, yoga, autograph and video gaming opportunities that make the two-day event into what organizers call a “festravaganza.”

It’s a formula so popular that the 14-year-old UK version, coined V-Fest, attracts about 175,000 people each year — tickets for the annual event sell out in about an hour.

But B.C. still has a way to go before we catch up to the British hype.

In spite of a successful 2007 kick-off — acts like The Killers, Hot Hot Heat and Billy Talent lured 25,000 fans to UBC’s Thunderbird Stadium for two rainy days in May — the event didn’t return last year.

And many wondered if it was a one-time deal.

“Last year the stars just didn’t align,” says director of Virgin Festival Canada Andrew Bridge.

“We had originally hoped to return to Vancouver in 2008 but didn’t feel that we could deliver a great line-up and experience comparable to 2007,” he says.

Putting on a major rock festival involves many different factors, he says.

“The main challenge of putting any major festival together is getting all of the pieces together to create a festival that delivers a full experience to the festival-goer — from the line-up right down to the venue and on-site experiences,” Bridge says.

“We’ve always said that we don’t want to go to a market just for the sake of it, but want to be sure that we bring the full Virgin Festival experience to that market.”

But even though it didn’t pan out last year, he says, organizers were optimistic about establishing the event in B.C.

“We always hoped to bring it back,” he says.

Besides that, the success of the first-ever Pemberton Music Festival last summer — it saw 40,000 people head to the mountains for four days and 120 acts, including Coldplay and Jay-Z — affirmed that there is a big market for outdoor festivals in B.C., he says.

He adds: “B.C. loves their music and there’s a great energy to this province.”

Things came together nicely this year too, he says.

After touring Deer Lake Park, Bridge says, he was impressed by the natural setting and thought it seemed like a fit for the family-oriented festival. (Kids under four years old are free.)

“They’ve done some great events there recently and it’s really come to the forefront as a large music venue,” he says, adding they’re expecting to fill it with about 20,000 festival-goers.

Organizers hope to make it a regular event, he says, adding they’re taking it one festival at a time. And he says, it would be great to find a location that allows for camping too.

“We’re looking forward to bringing the festival to life at Deer Lake Park this year and are focusing on making this year a success before we move on to planning the years to come.”

This year’s line-up includes a real mix of music. There are headliners like Ben Harper and The Roots as well as indie hitmakers like Metric and Broken Social Scene as well as lesser-knowns like Mute Math or Future of the Left.

“People come out for the talent,” Bridge says. “People want to go to a festival and learn about new music.” And they also come to hear bands they know andlove, he says.

This year’s party offers plenty of both.

Let’s just hope it doesn’t rain again.

Want to take a pole fitness class and don’t quite know what to look? This article should help you get a spinning start!

First and foremost, make sure the instructors are all AFAA (Aerobics and Fitness Association of America) certified. Secondly, seek a safe practice environment, with plenty of privacy. Also, make sure that poles are securely fastened to the ceiling and floor, without a lot of movement to them. Note, however, that the taller the poles are there will be some movement. As well, the beginner student should start on a static pole versus a spinning pole. Gripping a spinning pole while trying to do a pole spin or trick is more difficult and can cause injury if not done correctly. Also, learning on a static pole requires more effort, which is where the “exercise” part comes in and should be done first. Perfecting ones technique, balance, and strength is best done on a static pole before moving on to a spinning pole.
Classes should be broken up into several groups, starting from a basic class, for new students. Then advanced levels, where spins, pirouettes, and transitional dance moves are combined; to put together a routine. Intermediate level and beyond is for those who have built up the knowledge, practice and strength required to do more of the aerial tricks portion of the pole.

All classes should start with a minimum of a 5 to 10 minute warm up, which includes stretching, conditioning and a cool down portion at the end of class to bring the heart rate back down to normal. A potential instructor should also explain what and what not to wear in a pole class. Shorts are the best way to go along with a comfortable gym top or light t-shirt. Pole dancing requires a lot of physicality, so wearing the type of clothing that allows the skin to breathe is important. As well, not wearing any lotion or oils on the body, especially the legs and arms is crucial. In order to do the spins and tricks safely on the pole the skin needs to make contact with the pole on various parts of the body. Lotion can cause you to lose your grip on the pole. Often times when you are a beginner the adrenaline and nervousness can cause your hands to sweat so the combination of lotion and sweat, can all lead to unnecessary slipping, tripping or even falling which can lead to injuries. Because there is a lot of gripping with the legs, the same rules apply.

Whether to wear the high heel platform shoes or not is also a constant debate among experts because of the potential injuries that can happen. Lots of women enjoy wearing the platform heels and shoes make it easier to perform a variety of moves. Not only that but they build calve muscles and make the legs look nice long and lean. Every type of dance and sport has certain shoes that are designed to enhance performance. If taught how to dance correctly in the shoes by the instructor, injuries can be cut down to a minimum. However, it should always be the student’s decision whether they want to wear the heels. All pole moves can be preformed in bare fee, mainly on the tip toes. All inversion moves should first be done in bare feet until the move is perfected because the shoes add extra weight to the body.

“The truest expression of a people is in its dance and in its music. Bodies never lie.”

Last weekend I travelled four thousand miles to see the pop icon of the century, my #1 fitness inspiration, Madonna, perform at her sell-out Sticky and Sweet concert. Her performance sent me into a frenzy. Her music is my favourite to work out to, not only because it is great and she is a pop princess, but also because of what she represents for me and millions of others as a fitness icon. She has consistently raised the bar on her fitness and her current condition is now, in my opinion, the ultimate peak for any woman, much less one of 50 years of age.

For two and a half hours, she outdanced all of her dancers, most of whom must have been half her age.

Without stopping she was jumping rope, dancing, sliding, kicking, skipping, running and all at the same time, singing her heart out. Her energy was electric and non-stop, the stamina and endurance that she had was worthy of any marathon runner or triathlete. And now I will go on about how great she looked. I can only say that I have yet to see any woman of 50 dance on a pole dancing in micro shorts without a mere crinkle or crease much less a fold or a flap to show for it. Madonna’s body gives new definition to the terms “tight and toned”. Without even a smithereen of fat on her, her muscle tone is spread out evenly and beautifully like a piece of art throughout her entire body. If Michelangelo were alive today, there is no doubt that she would be the next female form of David.

UP TO THE CHALLENGE?
If you have always wanted to have a body like the Queen of Pop herself, and you are ready to raise your game in the fitness department, then who better to get inspired by than Madonna herself? This is summer, season of shorts, and by the look of things in the fashion department, the shorts only seem to get shorter as the place heats up. It’s an invitation to target one of the most attractive aspects of the female physique. your legs and butt. Even though it is true that every woman’s legs will take a different shape and form, and not everyone will end up with a pair of gams like Madame “M”, every woman’s pair of legs is unique to her body, and can look amazing with a few key moves to keep them at their best.

Having inspired millions with her music, her discipline, dedication and unwillingness to give up, she is my top pick for a pre-packaged fitness heroine, and I invite you to join the “LEGS LIKE MADONNA” challenge.

Take a few moves from the “hot mama” herself:
First, make sure you have 30 minutes of your favourite Madonna tunes downloaded onto your IPOD. You will need a skip rope, and an open space for running around. We begin the workout with a running sprint for one song, skip for one song and gallop for one song. Continue this sequence until the thirty minutes has passed. Switching activities will keep any one group of muscles from bulking up. You should be dripping with sweat after this (take very few breaks).

For the toning segment of the exercises, you need (two) three-pound dumbbells, starting with ten repetitions then working your way up to 100. The toning sequence is to be repeated three times without stopping. With your toning workouts the key is to constantly change the exercises to avoid overworking of any one muscle groups, because that creates bulk.

Changing the moves also keeps your muscle groups awake and alert. Every week I will be posting a new set of exercises on my website www.bodybyselena.com, for the four-week challenge.

Contrary to popular belief and even the apparent large muscle mass that Madonna has in her legs, she does not push heavy weights. She combines lighter weights with a high number of repetitions, so she always maintains an aerobic heart rate zone, while tightening. It will get you to your tightest, tiniest point without overdeveloping your muscles. If you are in any doubt about your health, be sure to check with your doctor before adopting this type of routine.

BALLET GRAND PLIES – Stand with your heels shoulder-width apart, toes pointing outward at about a 45-degree angle. With a straight back, abdominals engaged, bend at the knees as low as you can go, then go back up again. Start from ten and gradually increase to one hundred repetitions. Perform this first set without weights and then add the pair of three-pound dumbbells, holding them behind you.

FLOOR SEQUENCE – Down on the floor on all fours, (1) cross the right shin halfway over the calf of the left leg in the back, and lift the right leg up in the back towards the ceiling, lifting the foot as far as your hip will allow it to go, keeping the knee bent at 90 degrees and turned out. (2) Keeping the leg extended out straight behind you, point the toes and pulse the leg up to the ceiling, (3) Bend the knee out towards the shoulder, then return the leg back straight to starting position, (4) Holding the leg straight behind you pull the straight leg around towards the shoulder, and slowly bring it b

POLE dancing is the unlikely new way to keep fit in Honiton.

And women in their 50s are proving to be just as agile as their teenage classmates.

So popular are the sessions that instructor Kirsty Mills is poised to open a class for men.

Kirsty, 19, who suffers from a life-limiting illness, admits when she attended her first lesson she did it “for a laugh”.

She was then a student at Exeter College, studying the performing arts and art management.

“I had no perception of what pole dancing pole was,” she said.

“I never knew I’d be going upside down and doing crazy moves.

“Like any cardiovascular exercise, I knew it would be good for me – because I have cystic fibrosis.

“It has helped to keep my health at a reasonable standard.”

Kirsty, who has set up her own business, Pole Perfect, and offers classes at the Top Bar, in High Street, Honiton, says the art can be compared to gymnastics.

“It is an extreme form of fitness when you get to an advanced level,” she told the Herald.

“It’s a kind of addiction with me. I just want to be doing it.

“After initial lessons, I purchased my own pole and carried on learning.”

She is now a qualified pole dancing fitness instructor.

“I want to combat the stereotyping of pole dancing,” said Kirsty.

“I run two classes, back-to-back, on Tuesday evenings and intend to start a third, and expand to Seaton and Sidmouth.

“I have a maximum of 15 people per class, and they are all advancing really quickly. They are so good.

“My next goal is to run a male-only class. Men have got a lot of body strength already.

“My current students range from 18-year-olds to women in their 50s – and the older ones are just as good as the teenagers.”

Although Kirsty suffers from a serious health problem, which has caused irreversible damage to her lungs and other organs, she is positive about the future.

“I’ve always been focussed and I’ve got drive,” she said.

“Pole dancing has just pushed me to new levels.

Women are abandoning the gym in their droves to take up pole dancing. And leading the way in Calderdale is Kim Beech who has just opened her own removable pole dance studio

When the Eurythmics sang Sisters Are Doin’ It For Themselves they could have been talking about pole dancing.
Because pole dancing has successfully shimmied out of its sleazy image of the past and into the mainstream pole fitness world.
In the past, it has been largely confined to the world of lap dancing bars and night clubs. Shaking off that image has taken some time but it’s got there, thanks in no small part to the likes of 28-year-old Kim Beech, of Sowerby Bridge.
Kim has been pole dancing for 10 years and it has just opened her own purpose built studio, Pole to Pole, in Asquith Bottom Mill, Sowerby Bridge. She is on a mission to prove that not only is it respectable, but it is a performing art and sport as well.
Since it combines dance, gymnastics and exhibits the artist’s abilities on a pole, it is now recognised as a performing art. Because it requires significant stren-gth, flexibility, endurance, and consists of cardiovascular exercise routines, it
is also considered a sport.
“Forget the scantily clad woman in a basement and instead think of the mum of two in a studio. That is the future of pole dancing. Women are bored of the gym and traditional aerobic and step classes and want to try something different.
“It’s sexy, challenging and a good session on the pole can burn more calories than a good session in the gym and will certainly provide more muscle tone,” she says.
Kim, who went to Brooksband School, Elland, left her career as a professional dancer to give pole dancing classes, and was so in demand she decided to open one of the area’s first studios. It consists of a mirrored room with five poles, and she offers classes Monday to Saturday both during the day and in the evenings.
She’s attracting women of all ages and sizes, from as far away as Holm-firth and Morley, who not only remark on the physical benefits they reap, but the psychological ones too.
Any physical exertion has a positive mental effect due to the endorphins (natural pain blockers) exercise produces. Doctors have even been known to prescribe lessons to patients suffering from depression.
But many women talk of the increased confidence they feel afterwards. “Women get different things out of a class. They feel fitter and happier but mainly it’s a confidence thing. It takes confi dence in the first place to swing life and limb around a slippery metal pole. But once they have got over any embarrassment, most love it,” says Kim.
She admits it is not easy because women have to support their body weight with their arms and legs so upper and lower body strength is vital. “Some women are naturals and pick it up straight away while others need more practice.”
She starts her classes with a warm-up routine and then teaches women sexy dance moves around the pole before they learn to swing or climb it. Having attended a class all I can say is that it’s not as easy as it looks and you need a lot of flexibility, strength and stamina. But as well as leaving very red faced and bruised, you are also on a high.
Kim charges £6 for a one-hour class or women can pay a membership fee of £26 a month and attend as many classes as they like.
She has friends who will help her teach if she gets very busy, and future plans include putting regular class members in for competitions, and letting groups of friends take over the studio for such things as birthday and hen parties.
While Kim can twirl, spin and swing around a pole in high heels, she recommends class members wear trainers or bare feet, and shorts or hot pants. You need bare legs to grip the pole.
Pole dancing is no longer about men, it’s about women getting together, getting fit and having fun. Doin’ it for themselves really.

Nikki Craven grabs a metal pole dancing pole, and to the tune of Lady Gaga’s “Poker Face” lifts herself up on it, flips her legs over her head, does a twirl and slides down, hands first, onto the light-up tile floor.

Her students, on a Saturday afternoon at Inferno in downtown Greensboro, break into applause.

The News & Record of Greensboro reported that the 26-year-old Craven is a pole exercise instructor. She is not, however, a stripper. And though she has had some students who were exotic dancers, most are just women wanting to spice things up in their relationships or looking for a unique way to get into shape.

“Some people, when I tell them I teach pole dancing, they instantly shut down,” Craven said. “They hear the words ‘pole dancing’ and then they just associate it with something unseemly. But this is more about getting women to come out of their shells, to be confident in their bodies.”

The classes are part of a growing national trend that’s drawing a wide variety of people. Craven’s students range in age from 18 to early 50s and include college students, a pastor’s wife and even a former body builder, Jody Luman.

“I wish I had known about this, or lived close enough to someone who did this when I was competing in bodybuilding in 2005 and 2006,” Luman said. “It builds up your abs, your thighs, upper body strength. You build up a lot of tone and muscle doing this.”

“I’m probably the only person you know whose house has scuff marks on the ceiling,” Craven says.

Running the height of her living room is a 50 mm-wide pole. The scuff marks are the result of her high heels and pole inversions.

Craven’s home doubles as a studio for her business, Descending Angels. Aside from the pole and scuff marks, the living room looks much like any other, with pictures of her grandparents and 4-year-old son on the walls and a gray tabby cat named Mr. Nibbles lounging on the couch.

The Trinity resident works part time as a cashier at a grocery store and had never been a professional dancer.

She got interested in pole dancing four years ago when she was looking for something to rebuild her strength after having undergone back surgery.

“There were things, like bringing in the groceries and working in the backyard, that I couldn’t do,” she said. “But I got tired of feeling bad about myself, and when I found out about this, I thought, ‘This is interesting.’ ”

Her husband, Michael Craven, recalls that she bought a pole and put on a show for him as a Father’s Day present. The 5-foot-3-inch Nikki quickly learned to do inversions, twirls and other aerobatics. She bought a book on pole dancing and began taking lessons online from an instructor based in England.

Pole dancing as a sport and fitness activity became popular in Japan, Canada, the United Kingdom and Australia in the early 1990s, said Anna Grundstrom, founder of the U.S. Pole Dance Federation. It caught on in the United States in the early part of this decade and some gyms now even offer instruction alongside their pilates and yoga classes.

“Women want to find a new way to work out,” Grundstrom said in an e-mail interview. “They are tired of tramping around on the treadmill at the gym without getting any results. (The women want to) get in shape, find a new hobby, build confidence, befriend their bodies, feel sexy and have fun.”

Wanting to earn some extra income, Craven began offering lessons and hosting pole parties last year. Business has slowed a bit because of the economy, but has remained steady. Many of her students find out about her by word-of-mouth.

She said she typically only teaches one or two students at a time, so that she can give a good deal of attention to each person. She also heads a Meetup group, which occasionally brings a number of her students together. Prices start at $18 for a “semi-private” lesson (if another student tags along) or $35 for a private or one-on-one lesson.

“A lot of women choose to come with a friend,” she said. “It’s good to have someone with you, because then you’re encouraging each other, and you’re able to cheer one another on. But they can also get kind of competitive sometimes, to where one is getting something and the other says, ‘If she can do it then I can do it.’ And she becomes determined to get that spin or that transition.”

Craven said she starts new students out by teaching them about posture, and then showing them a few basic spins. The instructor said most women’s favorite part comes at the more advanced stages, when they’re finally able to swing upside down on the poles.

Grundstrom describes the activity as a full-body workout.

“Pole dancing helps build both upper and lower body strength as you lift your own body weight up and down the pole, climb, and use your core control while launching the body around the pole,” she said.

At Inferno, eight women gather for the Meetup group. Craven does some warm-up exercises, swiveling her hips, stretching her arms back behind her head and lifting her legs.

The women take turns on the three poles in front of the bar as Christina Aguilera, Flo Rida and other dance music artists play on Craven’s laptop.

One of her students, Katherine Schmauss, falls on her r

Yes, you read the headline correctly, Pole Fitness enthusiasts want Pole Fitness to be a contender in the Olympics. And by all indication, they will keep fighting until this eventually happens.

A worldwide online petition was started late in 2008, to have Pole Fitness considered by the Olympic Organizing Committee as a contender for the 2010 Olympics. www.omninerd.com/articles/Pole_Dancing_An_Olympic_Sport

And why not when you consider that curling is an Olympic sport.

In recent years BMX racing and Snowboarding have been added and now there is talk about adding skateboarding and hopefully Pole Fitness.

There is no denying that Pole Fitness has gone mainstream. For those unaware, Pole Fitness has grown well beyond the $1million dollar stage and has expanded into an organized worldwide competition for prizes. “It really isn’t that different from a training perspective, it’s that this just happens to be vertical”.

People that have never been inside of a Pole Fitness studio don’t understand the parallels between gymnastics and pole tricks. If Pole Fitness were presented at the Olympics this would help break down those barriers (Not to mention boost ratings that have reportedly been declining in the past years), and prove what pole enthusiasts all over the world already know. Perfecting the pole is hard work that gives the participant tremendous confidence.

Pole work involves a lot of gymnastics and requires a gymnasts discipline because of the time it takes to acquire that type of agility and flexibility. Generally speaking most women get involved in PoleFitness because they are traditional gym goers or even gym junkies, who enjoy the fitness challenge of mastering pole spins and tricks. It is quite common to hear “Wow I didn’t realize pole dancing was this hard” from women taking there first pole class. Those that have the patience and passion to master the art of pole pleasantly surprise themselves (and others) with the pole tricks they have learned.

Pole enthusiasts liken themselves to skilled athletes, not much different than an ice skater, or gymnast that you see at the Olympics. It has been argued that if a pole athlete’s pure strength, flexibility and artistry was seen performing on a pole, during the Olympics, it would “officially” be recognized worldwide, as a serious sport.

With all the hard work, hours, dedication, application and passion women put into their pole workouts they naturally want to the art and mastery of their craft to be shown. What better place than the Olympics?

Perhaps Pole Fitness won’t make it to the 2010 Olympics but its contenders say they will keep on pushing for the year that it will be recognized by the Olympics as the true sport that it is.
